"The State of California is considering" y'all sure building a large building on a non-existant foundation. You need to take a Valium or something, way too excited based on pure speculation.

WTS soon to be in World of Hurt !!!
by Amazing inthe state of california is now considering legistlation to make it easier, in fact very easy, for a victim of pedophilia to sue the church (catholic church is main target of legislation) for significant monetary damages - perhaps shifting the burden of proof somewhat to the perpetrators (priests) and their religious organizations who knew of these child molesters and shifted them around to different parishes.
the watchtower religion will also be significantly affected as the legislation is generic enough to include all religious organizations.
what else will be of concern to the watchtower religion?

The Watchtowers Motive: Greed
by metatron inhitler wasn't motivated by a desire for riches.
he was driven by greed all the same: a greediness.
for power, the desire for absolute control of fellow humans.

Outlaw it's this kind of hyperbole that diminishes the credibility of sites like this. Anyone that knows anything about Witnesses knows that they say God will execute judgement, not them, and that they play no part in it. "Stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah" is the direction.

That Konjavich is a class A jerk. I saw a brother threaten to hit him with a rock once. Heard he got his wings clipped a little for his sarcastic, belittling attitude.

Conventions at Yankee Stadium
by Kenneson ini became a jw in 1958, but was unable to attend the large convention at yankee stadium and the polo grounds in new york.
i understand that there were also two other large conventions held there in 1950 and 1953. anyone in this forum attend any of these?

I was there in 58. Long, hot, trunk load of books. Freddy Franz doing his little routine. Liked New York City. We took a day off in the middle and took the boat around Manhatten, went to the Zoo, that kind of stuff. Everyone seemed cool with that, eight days is a long time.

And who says England is getting past Brazil?? The mighty have really fallen in this World Cup and Germany is certainly beatable, especially if the officiating is decent.
Personally I'm holding out for Senegal to win the whole thing.

Pledge of Allegiance
by giantjason ina bill by sen. william ``pete'' knight would require that all california schoolchildren say the pledge of allegiance daily.
under sb 1248, public school teachers would have to lead students in saying the pledge at the beginning of each school day.
this is very interesting, although i seriously doubt it would pass.

This proposed law already makes an exception for students that choose not to recite the Pledge because of religious reasons. There's still a debate about whether or not teachers would be required to recite the Pledge or havre a similar exemption.

A Plea For Responsible Reporting
by hillary_step inmany hundreds of people read this site who are not subscribed, and i would suspect that the vast majority are jw's looking for answers to an internal turmoil that they may be living with.. the information posted on this board does get read and then passed among many congregations of jw's.
this information is a powerful force and is a wonderful thing for those who are seeking to be informed, and a not so wonderful thing to those in brooklyn who are seeking to harness the boundaries of knowledge.. given this scenario, and how much credibility can be lost by xjw's who perpetuate gossip and innuendo, can we check our sources and facts very carefully before we post information to this board.
there is no particular nobility in being first with news about some aspect of wts life.

Hilary I always like your posts and I completely agree with this one but replying to this mud dweller is a waste of time.

Circuit Overseers and Corruption
by MARTINLEYSHON inas an ex presiding overseer and public affairs spokesperson who is now disfellowshipped!!!
i am new to this site and have read with keen interest the many and varied topics that have been posted.
during my 9 years of presiding i encountered certain corrupt c/os for example the friends would treat them like little demy gods, hanging onto their every word, they would, on their visit influence the brothers to part with cash for privledges.

COs are a pretty mixed bag. Some are good and some are bad, and there are a whole lot that are just time servers. I've bought some (some amazingly cheaply) and not bought others. Didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference as to whether I got parts or not.
I'll say one thing about District Convention speakers, that takes a recommendation from the Circuit Panel and the CO doesn't have much if anything to say about that, though getting along with some of the guys on the panel helps quite a bit. You may get one talk at a District Convention through influence but it's pretty hard to get a second one unless you're reasonably competent, and usually better than that.
There are some exceptions, substitute COs and Pioneer/Elders get a little more lee way on the competency. Not to be racist, but, my experience has been that a black, Pioneer/Elder, substitute CO can be pretty awful and still get District Convention parts. I know of one that survived several conventions until a GB member heard probably the worst baptism talk in the history of the organization and that was the end of that dude. But no one else would pull the plug.

Elders--"untrained volunteers" or CLE...
by LDH inlet's see how long the wbts can continue to waffle on this issue.... telling their members that the elders are "appointed by god" and yet when they make a mistake, claiming that they are merely "untrained volunteers.".
i have never known exactly how "elders" are chosen and what the process is when a recommendation goes to brooklyn.
all i've ever heard is "the gb prays over the issue.

Recommendations for plain old garden variety elders just go to the Service Department. It's only Circuit Overseers and above that go to the GB.
